GeekWire recently commissioned us to photograph a series of Portraits of “Geeks Who Give Back.” The team at GeekWire honored the dozen individuals who work in non-profits, mentor others and invest in the future of the tech community. The pictures are featured in the GeekWire 2012 Calendar, given out at the recent GeekWire Gala.

Red Box Pictures is the official photography company of University of Washington Athletics, and we’re proud to sing the praises of the revamped gohuskies.com web site, just launched yesterday. Their “Who We Are is Why We Win” campaign features stylish portraits of Huskies student athletes created by the Red Box Pictures team. The Huskies really hit it out of the park with a design that features photography prominently and sets a winning tone for their fans and recruiting prospects. We spent three fun days photographing scores of these students, and we’re looking forward to doing more as future stars join their Huskies teams.

Jake Locker Photos | A Tribute to UW’s Quarterback

Jake Locker will begin his professional football career in the coming days, when he is expected to be chosen high in the NFL Draft. The first round of the annual event begins at 5pm PST. Having covered his play on the field and photographed him in portrait situations and off-field events, it’s hard not to hope the best for this talented athlete who seems to shine brightest in his treatment of others. We wish him the best and offer some favorite images we’ve made of him.

Red Box Pictures hosts NW Photojournalism event featuring picture editor Mike Davis

We had a great time hosting NW Photojournalism’s monthly meeting over the weekend. Picture editor extraordinaire Mike Davis was the featured speaker. He put on a great presentation, which included a live edit of two different photos stories. Thanks to Mike Kane, Josh Trujillo, Erika Schultz and Eustacio Humphrey for organizing and fostering the spirit of collaboration in the area photojournalism community.

Corporate Event Group Photo at Seattle Sheraton Hotel

We recently photographed a conference at the Seattle Sheraton for corporate client Savers. One of our missions was to take a group portrait of all 350 conference attendees We discovered that a 20-foot-tall ladder was just high enough to get a photographer above the group. Red Box Pictures photographer Andy Rogers expertly directed the crowd into a symmetrical shape from his perch on the ladder’s apex. He shot multiple frames to achieve a single photo where almost everyone was looking in the right direction, with eyes open. For those who blinked or looked away, he cloned their head from a different frame using Adobe Photoshop. Four studio strobes were bounced off the ceiling of the large hotel ballroom to light the group evenly.

Portrait of Howard Schultz – Starbucks celebrates 40 years

Red Box Pictures photographer Dan DeLong had the opportunity to do a portrait session with Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz for a USA Today story. The picture was published earlier this week with a Q&A session featuring the CEO looking back and ahead as the company reaches its 40th anniversary. The company opened its first store on March 30, 1971.
