Visit from Former P-I Publisher

Visit from Former P-I Publisher

We had a nice visit from Roger Oglesby, the former publisher of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, when he dropped by the studio earlier today before enjoying a nice lunch with our neighbors at the Boat Street Cafe. It was good to hear that he is doing well, spending time with his family while splitting his week […]

My pal from college in Austin, TX, Stephanie Friedman stopped by the studio last week during a visit. We had a yummy lunch and shot some fun pix in the studio, along with her husband Ted and local friend Shelly. I just read Steph’s tweet about her new artwork. Check out her hip and beatiful […]

Academy of Sciences

Academy of Sciences

I just returned from a great vacation in the Bay Area, California. One highlight of our visit was a trip to the new California Academy of Sciences building. This place was amazing, and my four-year-old son Benjamin and his visiting cousin Li were captivated. Despite the wonders all around him though, Ben seemed most in […]

Dust up at the Hanford Nuclear Site

Dust up at the Hanford Nuclear Site

My recent visit to the Hanford Site, a decommissioned nuclear production complex near Richland, Wash. ended up being challenging in ways I never expected.

When I first took the assignment from the Washington Post, I presumed that gaining access to would be difficult, but after a few phone calls, I got connected with Geoff Tyree, with U.S. Department of Energy, who was more than helpful in coordinating a visit to the site, where plutonium was once manufactured for use in the first nuclear bomb and in Fat Man, the bomb detonated over Nagasaki, Japan.

Poster Boy

Poster Boy

Durandy is passionate.

Andy Golub has amassed the largest collection of Duran Duran posters in the world, which he keeps archived to museum standards in a Bellevue storage facility. Whether you ever were or still are a fan of the English band (I was), you have to admire when a person puts all of himself into doing something the right way. Durandy has been doing it right, collecting rare items from around the world since early 1985 and making them available for admiration by other fans via his Durandy Productions website.

Adorable Baby Lachlan

Adorable Baby Lachlan

Baby Lachlan here is the cover-child for May’s Seattle’s Child Magazine. Liz Gillespie, the magazine’s editor asked me to track down a little one for their “New Arrivals” issue and fortunately, I knew a baby with just the right personality.

3, 2, 1…liftoff!

3, 2, 1...liftoff!

Welcome to the blog. We’re getting this thing rolling so that our clients, friends and family can keep an eye on what we’re up to as we forge ahead on our new adventure. Red Box Pictures is a new photography studio in Seattle founded by four former Seattle Post-Intelligencer photographers shortly after the paper closed in March. We decided to go into business together for a bunch of reasons, but one of the biggest was to preserve some of the great camaraderie we shared as members of a newspaper staff.
